One school policy we have here at Olympian is that students can not use cell phones in class. In my opinion, this rule should be abolished. Teachers think that using cell phones in class is a huge distraction. I do not see how it can be. The only way using a phone in class is a distraction is when it rings or vibrates. This issue can be fixed if the students put their phones on silent. This way, no other negative attention could be attracted during class.
What is wrong with people texting during class? If a student has enough motivation, they would not let their phones bother them in the first place. They would give full attention to the teachers. For the others, what if it is an emergency? They should be allowed to know what is going on. We are high schoolers, we are mature enough to not let our phones distract others. So if we decided to text during class, we would do it discreetly, & everybody wins.
One other issue a teacher might bring up is that students will think it is okay to use during tests. Well it is simple actually, just take their phones away and give it back after.
