A controversial issue at our school is the no gum allowed on campus policy. This is a policy I would like to modify. I feel that the chewing gum issue should be modified to gum being allowed on campus but not in classrooms such as science classes and physical education classes due to the fact some people can't multi task. Studies show that chewing gum can help you concentrate and stay focused. According to healthmad.com chewing gum can be used as an alternative to bad habits, a quick way to refresh your breath, improve your memory, and help you lose weight. If you chew sugar free gum 100 times a minute for 12 minutes you can burn 70 kilo-calories an hour. A teachers biggest hesitation about students chewing gum in class is the question where is the gum going to end up when out of flavor. Students stick gum under desk, on walls, and sometimes in trees. As a student I can say this happens because most students don't want to get caught or get in trouble for doing something that's not allowed. If given the chance to change this policy I would say we should at least try it.
