At Olympian, or just about every other school in the district, they do not allow gum. whether chewing it in class or on campus, most staff will tell you to throw it away. I understand that it is does make a mess, but believe it or not gum helps you concentrate and keeps you focused. This is good, especially during test, because Olympian's goal is for us to go to A 4 year university, and just over half of your grade in any class is tests. If students were allowed to chew gum then there test scores are more likely to be better, because it allowed the student to concentrate on the work and not get carried away and think about something else. In my opinion, gum should be allowed at school, but only during important tests, CAHSEE SAT EOC etc., or for AP students who need that concentration in class.
