It was September 8, 2011,it was like any other ordinary thursday afternoon .It was extremely humid so my brother and I cranked up the fan and began watching cartoons. We were ebullient with laughter after hearing a hysterical line, when all of a sudden zip!The television had shut off and the fan began to spin slower and slower until it finally shut down too.I was so confused on what had just occured, until my Mom came down the stairs informing me of the power outage.Still puzzled, her first instinct was to turn on the radio,we all listened to the radio announcer say "The power will not be back on until later tommorrow and that all district schools are cancelled".Knowing that school was cancelled,it lifted some of that chaos off my shoulders.Afterwards, we all acted like a factory line, prioritizing our time using what was left of the visible daylight. We acted fast, transferring all our refrigerated goods into the cooler, gathering as many candles as we could find, and searching for batteries to fill our flashlight and radio's.Unfortunately, only the neccesities could fit in our limited-space cooler, so we were left with a pile of raw defrosting meat.So we decided to have a meat buffet for dinner! It was very delicious and filling. After dinner the whole family went outside to hang out with the other neighboring families,I was surprised to see many kids playing in the streets, and enjoying the stars.Although the state was in a full-blown black out it was a very bright night due to the thousands of stars that were visible. That night went from being a huge bane into a enjoyable festivity that I will never forget. The blackout proved to many of us that we can barely survive without electricity. We depend on electrical devices in our everyday routines, that it becomes a essential to our living.
