Blackout

Last week their was a power outage that lasted about 12 hours. During the blackout, around 4, everybody on my block started playing outside. Everybody eventually came up with the idea to have to block party and a barbeque to eat the food that may go bad in a few hours, like hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and other snacks, and to hang out with each other because everybody has been extremely busy, including my family. Everybody on my block contributed by bringing food out. As soon as it got dark everybody grabbed their flashlights and started helping each other see what was on the table, what they were eating, what was cooking, finding each other, and finding items in our houses. Once everybody was done eating their diner we pulled out a fire pit and started making s'mores. Around 1 in the morning everybody was tired and we all helped clean up so we can go to sleep.
I believe that we depend on electricity way too much. During the power outage I walked my dog and realized that their were so many kids playing outside on their bikes, or with their friends and neighbors. I didn't realize how many kids live around me. I could tell that I depend on electricity more than I should. Whenever I go inside I would try to turn on lights, the fan, or air conditioner. Before the power went out my younger brother was watching television and as soon as it turned off he didn't know what to do. So many people come home from work or school and turn on the television or computer instead of working on their homework or even just spending time with their family. I believe that every once in awhile we need to go without using the electricity. Their are more important things than the computer and t.v.. I hope that people learn that electricity is very valuable and their are more important things. It gave us a chance to get off the couch or computer and go outside and hang out with friends, family, and neighbors.
