Blackout - Rani Salileng
On September 8, 2011 a city-wide blackout occurred all over San Diego. During, the blackout which I had noticed probably around 4 pm, I was at practice at school. All the girls I was with just expected that the electricity wouldn't be working for maybe an hour or so. So we just waited until the power would come back back on. We later found out it wasn't just us experiencing this, but everyone all over the San Diego County. All the other extra activities that happen after school such as, Cheer, Football, Volleyball, Band, Dance, etc. including us had to leave the school since the blackout occurred. While I was at school, I didn't think much of the black out. But I later realized, it could have been something much more serious, terrorist attack? the heat waves? As I was heading home, I was worried thinking about everyone that would be in the hospitals. Such as the patients, and my Mother since she works there. I then found out, the hospitals would be fine since they have generators that would work for a few days. Other than that, I loved the vibe during the black out. There was no noise, and no disturbances. Just the candle lights, glow sticks, and flashlights. Also, it was nice to actually see the the stars and moon brightening the entire night sky for once, but San Diego obviously depends mostly on electricity.
