Blackout- Kristen Sumbingco-Alba

On Thursday, September 8, 2011, we had our first blackout of this year. It was around 3:10 when I got home and turned on the electric fan, my laptop, and the television. A couple minutes later, everything shut completely off. At first, I thought I pressed the wrong switch to turn everything off. But, it also happened to a lot of other people. Then, as I tried to call my parents to tell them what had happened, I could not get any signal. I mean, no signal in my house?! There was something wrong. In my head, I was just thinking that this is just any other type of blackout that would last only a couple hours. But then, the sun was slowing fading away. My siblings left the house to go to the park to play basketball. I did not go because I wanted to finish my homework. But then, hours passed and I could not finish it because it got pretty dark and I could not see. Soon, I had to light up candles because I could not see since there was no electricity. I was home alone for four hours until my parents came home at nine. I had to light up a lot of candles until I finally found a flashlight. I also had to take a shower in the dark since I felt gross for going to sleep without taking a shower. I then heard that I did not have school the next day so I did not finish the rest of the homework until the following day. That is how my blackout on Thursday turned out to be. I could seriously not last a day without electricity even if it depended on my life.
