Hurricane Irene was a large hurricanethat left extensive damage along its path through the Caribbean, the United States in 2011. It all started August 20 and it was gone by August 24. Irene caused destruction and at least 54 deaths; monetary losses to the Caribbean could be as high as US$ 3.1 billion according to preliminary estimates.Early damage estimates in the US are about $7 billion.The impact has been on 11 states causing flooding and violent winds. The rain measurement has reached between 5 to 12 inches over the Eastern Coast of the U.S. The hurricane affected millions of people and caused power outages, flooding, and a lot of people needed to be evacuated.It has not been the largest disaster but it did affect the East Coast.
