How effective is the Academic Literacy Plan? I am told to teach systematically and I believe this is the best way for an entire school to teach a set of 6 skills and 3 habits to a school that has over 1800 students. Others may argue that this systematic approach of teaching inhibits a teacher's creativity within their classroom or does it?
Mr. Salazar
I believe that the Acedemic Literacy Plan is effective because it teaches us skills that we will be using in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think the ALP is effective because it helps us understand our work better and all the skills that we gained from it will come along with us to college and help us succeed in it.
ReplyDeleteI Think that Olympian's Alp Plan Helps Us (Students) Figure Out And Solve Our Own Problems Without Teachers Which Is Useful In College Because Teachers Won't Always Be Able To Help You !
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I also believe the Academic Literacy Plan is efficacious because of the fact that it is taught systematically like Mr. Salazar mentioned. Systematic by definition means using a certain system or method, hence the very reason why all Olympian High School student's are prepared for a 4 year college. To explain, students are more likely to remember and learn the ALP because of the constant and similar lesson's and reminders given by every one of their teachers's, by quarterly survey's given by our Principal & poster's that are displayed in all classrooms due to that specific method.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I also believe that the systematic approach of teaching the ALP does not inhibit a teacher's creativity within their classroom because ALP is just one single lesson required to be taught a certain way throughout the year. Thus, teacher's have the ability to teach other vital lesson's in their own creative ways.

I believe that the academic literacy plan is effective to some extent, but overall it will helps us become successful in the future
ReplyDeleteI believe the academic literacy plan is effective because it gives us key skills to make it through our high school years and go onto college using what we have learned from the ALP and our teachers. It also agrees with the mission of Olympian which is to prepare each graduate for success in a four year college or university. I feel the systematic approach does not inhibit a teachers creativity on how to get this subject across to his/her students. Their are multiple was for teachers to make this an interesting part of students learning. How the learning process is done is up to the teacher.
ReplyDeletei think the systematic approach of teaching Olympian high schools academic literacy plan does not limit a teachers creativity but actually challenges it. with every teacher trying to teach the students the same 6 skills and 3 habits all in the same system, the teachers are challenged to teach these more creatively so the students aren't just hearing the same thing all the time from every teacher. if a student hears the same thing being taught over and over, it gets boring and no one listens to it. a teacher that teaches the ALP creatively would help the students because they would first of all actually listen, and learn something new instead of something they've heard before.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, i think the ALP is definitely beneficial/effective to the students. These skills will definitely help us in the future; our jobs, college and etc. Also i feel that the systematic approach does not inhibit a teachers creativity. Rather it's a big challenge because you hear it in every class over and over so, in order for the students to not get bored, the teacher needs to interpret it and have a new way of teaching that material.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the acedemic literacy plan is very helpful, effective, and resourceful. ALP has helped students and even teachers understand pieces of texts. Students who follow the acedemic literacy plan is more likely to succeed and enter a 4 year college or university. Moreoever, the Alp is resourceful for even students in college. Even high school graduates still use the aceddemic literacy plan because it contains useful skills.
ReplyDeleteThe Academic Literacy Plan will help us to suceed in college. A systemtic approach disciplines the mind to follow specific rules that will lead you to accomplish assignments in an orderly manner. A creative approach brings excitement, imagination, and fresh new ideas. I believe the combination of both, systemtic and creative approach, can better prepare us to suceed academically and build confidence. Think outside the box.

I believe the Academic Literacy Plan is pretty effective for what it is. It definitely provides us students with a set plan to improve & train our thinking process that will not only help us in the rest of our high school years, but it will act as a critical factor in out future in college & careers. It is also structured in an orderly matter in which each student of Olympian High can be on the same page, giving a sense of unity within the student body as a whole, regardless of our grade & the classes we take. I also believe that it doesn't clash with the creativity within a classroom, because there are a variety of ways in which the skills & habits may be made familiar with us & can lead to a better understanding.

I believe that the Academic Literacy Plan is an effective way to teach students important skills and habits to use for both high school and college. Upon hearing it, I first though it was pretty simple. However, I began to understand how much it could actually help you. I do not think its systematic characteristic necessarily inhibits the teacher's creativity unless the teacher decides not to apply it well into their lesson or teaching style and instead go a cookie-cutter or bread-and-butter method of teaching. I think that the way the teacher teaches the ALP can greatly benefit them and students will actually be able to remember it and constantly be using it throughout life.
ReplyDeleteI can surly say that the Academic literacy plan really is a beneficial plan because, the skills that the students learn and use at Olympian high will lead them to their future careers on their own and teach them skills to succeed in a four year college or university. I can strongly say that the Academic literacy plan does not inhibit the teachers creativity. I say that its a mission that the students should keep in mind and use so they would be successful in education. This is just one lesson being taught and it doesn't mean teachers cant be creative with their classrooms.
ReplyDeleteI don't think having all teachers teach the ALP skills limits their creativity. To get us students to understand the concept of all of them, they would have to think of ways we would use the skill. To get us students to actually learn it, some teachers may need to explain how we use these skills in life.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I think the Academic Literacy Plan is very effective because it helps students to understand the concepts of what they are learning. I don't think the ALP inhibits the teacher's creativity because they can just apply the ALP into their teaching styles.
ReplyDeleteThe ALP is definitely something teachers should be referring to in many lessons because constant reminder of the ALP can build a strong foundation of success in many students
ReplyDeleteI believe that the ALP is very effective as well as benificial for us students. Since because we basically practice these skills everday during school, when we come across problems during college we'd be able to apply our past learnings and successfully overcome the situation. Also, i agree that the alp doesnt limit the teachers creativity but yet challenges it since for their lesson plans they would have to teach the concepts they would have to that day as well as incorporate these skills all in an engaging way so they students wouldnt lose focus on the concepts presented to them.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the AlP is very effective to the students becuase the skills and habits we learn will benefit us later in our life when we go to college. learning the six skills and three habits will surely help us succeed in college and in life. The ALP doesn't limit the creativity of the teacher, however, it challeneges the teacher to think of ways to keep the creativity in the classroom for the students
ReplyDeleteI think the ALP altough useful, is overtaught at Olympian. It seemes like we spend alot of class time learning these skills that could be used to study material thats going to be on a test. But thats just my opinion.

The ALP, I believe, is very effective only if you know how to utilize the skills. The skills will most definitely help you in college and beyond but you need to know what they are and how to use them. To know, you need to learn. Teaching the skills systematically will help students learn better in my opinion. I don't think it will limit creativity. You could teach the skills in a creative and systematic way. Creativity makes things more fun to learn and students don't remember boring things, they remember fun things.

I think that the ALP, is a very important topic that should be taught a lot at school, because Olympian High School wants there students to not only graduate but to go to college as well, and the ALP is basically skills that prepare you for college.
ReplyDelete-Damien Martinez
I think that the ALP is very affective because its more like a guide to get you successfully threw high school and have a chance to be accepted to a 4 year college or university. You can also apply these rules to the rest of your life. To me the classroom should be taught differently according to the teachers standards as long as they meet every objective.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, I do believe the ALP is very effective. These skills and habits of mind would prepare each student and help them suceed for college and any career in life.

ReplyDeleteI believe that the ALP is effective. It will help each student to become successful later on during in their high school years, college years, and later on in life while applying for jobs, etc. I think that if you learn the ALP in a non boring way, and learn it in a new, fun, creative way; you'll be able to learn it a lot easier than ever. Also, learning the habits of mind, would be a lot easier to learn them in a fun way.

ReplyDeleteI believe that the ALP is very effective because it is taught throughout your 4 years of high school and the purpose being to take the skills that were taught to a college or university.
ReplyDeleteAcademic Literacy Plan is definitely essential for all students because it covers all the skills needed to be succcessful in a college or a univercity. Although others have different perspectives, i believe ALP is very effective for all of us.
